Look for Less – New Bed

Ciao! I’m currently in Italy! Venice to be specific! I’ll be back in a couple weeks to share pictures and stories from my trip, but in the meantime I’ve scheduled a few posts in my absence. Can you believe I was actually that on top of blogging? Me neither. Anyway, today I want to share my favorite new piece of furniture: I finally bought a real bed!

For the past few years I’ve used my DIY stenciled upholstered headboard in the bedroom. I still think it’s a great project, but it got pretty gross looking thanks to the two doggies I share a bed with. I don’t know why, but every night Ringo would lick a specific spot on the headboard. You can imagine how dirty that spot is now. I could have tried to clean it, but I was really for a real bed.

After a lot of online research I decided on a dark bronze metal bed. I knew it would look great with the dark navy walls plus it has a vintage vibe that is totally my style. I found a lot of options at various price points with various reviews. I ended up purchasing the Julian Metal Platform Bed from Wayfair. It had pretty good reviews and the price is pretty unbeatable, especially compared to a similar bed from Pottery Barn.

Of course I was concerned about quality for that price, but only negative reviews were about needing a box spring. Well, I already have a box spring, so no worries there. Anyway, the bed was delivered about a week later. The box was massive and heavy, but I managed to drag it through the house by myself. I also put the bed together by myself. It definitely would have been easier and faster with an extra set of hands, but it was manageable. I had no problems with holes not lining up and everything went together easily. The bed is also very solid and sturdy. I’m VERY happy with my purchase.

I love my new bed and obviously the love it dogs do too. Having a real bed makes the room look so much more finished and I feel like such a grown up now (haha). There’s still a lot left to do in the room, but I love how it’s looking so far. I can’t wait to get some art up on those walls! I'm looking for a panoramic picture that I can frame and hang above the bed. Maybe I'll find something while I'm in Italy or can use one of the pictures that I take!

OK, let’s look at the to-do list:

Paint Walls
Buy Bed
New Nightstands
New Dressers
Buy Chaise Lounge
Buy/Hang New Curtains
Hang Artwork
Add Full-Length Mirror
Sew Pillows
Paint Lamps
Accessories and Finishing Touches

  3. Hi there Sam!

A long time reader here and first time commenter. Hope you love Venice as much as I did. Talking about the brass beds, how much research did you really have to do? I have to commend you on that approach of the side-by-side comparisons. They really help guys like me that don't have the time to do a lot of research but still want a good deal.
