Dining Room Artwork

Two weeks ago I brought y’all along with me on a shopping trip to Hobby Lobby. I shared 1 of the 3 items that I bought (a lamp) and teased 2 more purchases. Well today I’m going to show you the other 2 items that ended up in my cart.
If you read the title of this post you already know that I bought some artwork for my dining room. The wall in the dining room has been blank since I moved in. I couldn’t decide what to hang and never found a piece that called to me…and then I found this set of pictures:

I love the modern pattern of the background mixed with the classic lettering and vintage pictures. The pictures were $69.99/each, but were on sale for 50%-off. So, I paid $69.99 for the pair!
I was so excited to hang them up until I realized that I couldn’t hang anything in the middle of the wall (at the correct height) without that light switch getting in the way. So I used brown craft paper and tape to figure out the best spot to hang the pictures. This is the placement I ended up with. I know it’s not centered, but it’ll have to do.

Next I measured everything out and secured the pictures to the wall with screws/anchors. Finally, something on the walls!

I like this look, but it seemed a little too…traditional? I’m not sure if that’s the right word, but it seemed to dark and classy (also not the right word) for the rest of the house. So I taped off the glass and spray painted the frames white. I didn’t like the look of the bright white frames with the dark mats, so I also painted the mats. I just used some leftover white latex paint and a small roller. The key is to do multiple thin coats. After all of that, here’s the final product:

I’m so happy to finally have something hanging on this wall. It’s been way too long! As promised in my 2013 Home Goals, I’m really trying to get the house put together this year. Obviously it won’t be all done this year, but small steps like this will really help make it look less random.
(I'm still debating if they need to be hung a couple inches lower...)

  1. Yay!! Commitment! That is a funny wall with the light switch but I think you have a good height with the chairs and such right there. High five :)

  2. This looks very nice. I love the simplicity.

  3. These look great! I love the white frames with your wall color!

    Great Job!

  4. I think they look about the right height. It definitely makes all the difference to a room once you start getting artwork up.

  5. I think the height looks good! What a smart idea to use the paper to visualize how they would love and where they should go.

    They look great white!
