ORC Week 3: All About That Bed

We’re officially at the half way point of the One Room Challenge and wow, the time is really flying by! I’m still feeling pretty good about finishing my room in time, but I do have another project to add to my to-do list. I’ll talk about that later, but let’s talk progress!

The most exciting updates this week are all about the bed! The bed I ordered is the Novogratz Her Majesty bed in blue linen (also available in gray) and I LOVE IT! I bought mine from Overstock and it was $251 after applying a coupon code. It looks like it’s currently for sale on Amazon for $251, so if you prefer Amazon or don’t want to mess with finding a coupon code, that’s definitely the way to go!

It’s excellent quality for the price and I’m 100% happy with it. It took Adam and I a little over an hour to put it together and we didn’t have any issues with it…other than the dogs being nosy and in the way.

The new mattress is from Mattress Firm and was delivered last week. It’s the Simmons Beautyrest Ashaway mattress and it’s making me wish we had bought a new mattress for our room too. I also ordered this mattress protector from Amazon. If you don’t already have a waterproof mattress protector on all of your beds, buy them now! It saved our bed when we were fostering dogs and one of them peed on it…multiple times!

I also started adding all of the bedding. I didn’t really plan it this way, but everything is from Target. I love the patterned sheets and I’m obsessed with the striped duvet (I ended up picking the blue one). The throw pillows were all on clearance at Target and I love how much texture they add to the bed.

OK, so let’s look at the ol’ to-do list to see where I’m at this week. You might notice that there’s been a change to the nightstand plan. Once we set up the bed, we tested out the nightstands that used to be in the room and I think they’ll work. They’re maybe a little taller than I’d prefer, but they are close enough that it’s not worth spending more money to replace them. All they need is a new coat of paint and different knobs.

• Queen-size bed
• Queen-size mattress

• Hooks for next to closet

  1. It looks awesome! That bed looks so cozy and you may have trouble getting rid of the guests that come to visit! I love the various textured pillows. I can't wait to get a three bedroom again so I can have a guest room. I will be using your guest room as inspiration when I get there!

    1. I always do such better with a project if I make a detailed list...otherwise nothing gets done!

  3. That bed looks super comfy. I agree about the waterproof cover - I learned that one the hard way. Love the way you decorated the room also.

    1. Oh no! I never thought we'd need a waterproof cover because it's just the 2 of us and no kids, but I'm so glad I bought one anyway. It would have completely ruined our mattress!

  5. My head board is very similar and is grey from Overstock. I have had such an amazing experience with every purchase I've made with them! Their customer service is stellar! They will send you swatches of material for free and I've even had great success with their open box items! Love your bed!

  6. Ahhh there's that gorgeous bed! We got a new mattress for our teenager son's room, too, and we realize now that everyone is going to have to get a new one because none of us willingly leave his room at this point and it's kind of becoming a problem. ;)

    1. Haha yes! I really want a new mattress for our room now. They were having an amazing sale on a king-size cooling memory foam one while we were there and I kinda regret not buying it...
