The Friday Five

One – Paint Nite Phoenix

Wednesday night my boyfriend’s sister, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin took me to Paint Nite to celebrate my birthday. The painting was called Crazy Daisy and it was rated Very Easy…thankfully! I’m creative and crafty, but I’m not very artistic. We had a great time and everyone’s pictures ended up looking pretty good. I love these wine and paint classes so hopefully we’ll get together soon to try it again!

Two – 4th of July

Last Saturday we had a 4th of July BBQ at our house. We grilled burgers and brats plus macaroni salad, baked beans, watermelon, and brownies. Everything turned out great and I think everyone had a good time. We also shot off fireworks in our backyard. That’s always a lot of fun…unless you’re Ringo. He hates them and hid in the bath tub the entire time. Poor guy!

Three – Orange is the New Black

Has anyone else finished season 3 of OITNB? I won’t post any big spoilers, but I will say I liked this season better than the second season, but I thought some parts were pretty boring. I loved the all of the back stories and some of the prison storylines (like the kosher meals, Big Boo/Pennsatucky’s friendship), but I thought that the Norma religion/cult thing went on WAY too long. I also didn’t like Piper’s panty business and her speech on the picnic table had me rolling my eyes. I assume she’s going to get caught and they are going to extend her sentence so the show can continue on, but that’s just a guess.

Four РSaut̩ed Sugar Snap Peas

I’m currently on a no flour, sugar, dairy or anything yummy diet, so I’ve been eating a lot of vegetables. This sautéed sugar snap peas recipe from Ina Garten is my new favorite veggie side dish. It’s so quick and easy, plus it’s different than the green beans or broccoli that I usually cook. If you’re stuck in a veggie rut, I definitely recommend trying this dish.

Five – Upper Peninsula/Green Bay/Chicago

Next Thursday we leave for our Michigan trip. We’re spending the first few days of the trip in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for our friends’ wedding. After that we are going to drive down to Green Bay for a day and then Chicago for a couple days. If you have any tips for things to do/see/eat, please let me know!

  4. Poor Ringo! Admiral hates fireworks and thunder too...today I came home and I'm pretty sure he hid in the tub today when there was a thunder storm (I saw some little dirty paw prints in the tub). Have fun on your trip!!!
