ORC Week 5: Refreshed Nightstands

Can you believe there’s only one more week until the big reveal?!? I still have a couple projects left to complete and a lot of finishing touches to work on, but I’m feeling good about getting done in time. I think I have pretty much everything ordered, so at least I won’t get derailed by shipping issues this round.

My biggest accomplishment this week was finishing up the nightstands for the room. At the beginning of the challenge I thought that I was going to have to order new nightstands because of the new bed’s difference in size and height. Luckily after everything was put together, they still fit and looked fine. If I was starting from scratch, they aren’t necessarily what I’d pick now, but they work.

The distressing and glass knobs didn’t really go with the rest of the design though. So over the weekend I pulled out the paint and touched up all of the distressing. I also bought new knobs at Hobby Lobby and I love how it all looks now. And I love that they only cost $8 (for the knobs).

My next project was hanging up the hooks. I’ve always wanted to hang a few hooks in this spot. I think they’ll be really convenient for anyone staying in there. I bought this rack at Hobby Lobby. I think it was $13.99, but I had a 40%-off coupon, so like $8.

My favorite purchase this week is this handmade pottery from a local thrift store for $5. The color is perfect for the room and I’m so happy to finally add something unique. It was starting to feel a little like Target and Amazon overload in there!

I was hoping to get the new curtain rod up this weekend, but it didn’t arrive until yesterday. So that’s still on my to-do list. I still need to update the chalk art on the chalkboard and make the tassel garland too. I think the tassels will look cute swaged on the chalkboard, but it could turn out to be too much…we’ll see. Other than that, I need to pull everything together and work on the finishing touches. I always have a hard time with that part, so cross your fingers for me!

Be sure to check out the progress from the other One Room Challenge participants! You can find the featured designers here and the guest participants here. I’m so excited to see everyone’s room and I'm definitely a little nervous about a few people finishing in time!

  1. I LOVE those prints that you selected! They look so good! They also have a really timeless feel to them that is always so wonderful to have. I'm addicted to your woven wall piece. I'm going to buy them off of Amazon now that I know they're there. Yay! Can't wait to see it all finished! It's so cute!

    1. Me too! I think they were originally only $20 at a yard sale and I've had them for years now.
