Apothecary Cabinet

To buy or DIY – that is the question.
My original plan to fill the space between the window and fireplace was to build a card catalog (similar to Stacy’s DIY version). I love a good DIY project and after building our desk, I felt confident I could build another piece.

That was my plan…until I spotted this apothecary cabinet at Target.

After a little measuring I figured out that it was the perfect size for my space, so I chose to buy instead of DIY. Considering how much I would have spent on wood and hardware, the $149 price tag didn’t seem unreasonable. And that’s not even factoring in the time it would have taken me to build a card catalog!

I love that this space has a real piece of furniture now. Bye-bye old IKEA nightstand! I still need to style the cabinet and lower/move the clock, but I how the space is looking so far.

For those of you who want to know more about the cabinet, it’s the Threshold Apothecary Graywash Cabinet. It’s pretty light – I was able to lift it into the shopping cart by myself. The bottom two rows of drawers are actually two big drawers instead of individual cubbies, which is nice for storage. So far I’m completely happy with this piece!

Another item on the to-do list bites the dust:
Replace arm chair
Find coffee table
Sew throw pillows
Buy garden stool
Style entertainment center shelves
Replace missing baseboard
DIY abstract art
Re-paint console table
Buy large plant/pot
Paint China Hutch
Decorate fireplace mantle
DIY card catalog (apothecary cabinet)

  1. It's really pretty! I love it Sam! :) Totally worth it - it always surprising me how much wood costs! It's not always cheaper to DIY. Anyway, Target is amazing. A thought - maybe you could get a mirror or large frame to put on the apothecary and then the clock wouldn't look so high up? Because I'd be too lazy to move the clock. ha
